Getting started
Install Open Road MP and join your first server.
Open Road MP is a multiplayer mod for Euro Truck Simulator 2. You drive on the same map as other players, see their real trucks with paint jobs, lights, wipers and licence plates, and chat with them. Anyone can run their own server.
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- Euro Truck Simulator 2 on Steam, in the version the server asks for (currently 1.61)
- Steam must be running
- DirectX 11 (Open Road MP starts the game with it automatically)
Install and start
- Download Open Road MP from the download page. The installer is the easiest way: run it, it downloads the newest version and installs it for your Windows user (no admin rights, into
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Open Road MP), with shortcuts in the Start menu and on the desktop. Uninstall it like any app under Windows Settings > Apps - your settings (openroadmp.cfg) stay. Prefer no installer? Take the ZIP and extract it into a folder of its own (not into the game folder). - Start Open Road MP (with the ZIP:
openroadmp.exe). The launcher keeps Open Road MP up to date, finds ETS2 through Steam and starts it.
Updates come by themselves
Every start of openroadmp.exe checks for a new version. If there is one, it downloads only the files that changed, checks each of them and restarts itself - you see the progress in its window. Your settings, logs and mods stay where they are. If openroadmp.com cannot be reached, the installed version starts.
- On the first start, pick your language (German or English, changeable later under Settings), a player name (3-24 characters: letters, digits,
_ - . [ ]) and sign in with your Open Road MP account. Open Road MP opens openroadmp.com in your browser: log in or create an account, confirm your mail address, link your Steam account and click Sign in the game. Open Road MP never sees your password, and you only do it once. Your account gets an ID of its own (likeoprmp:KXQTRB-4821) - servers know you by it. - Choose a server from the list and click Connect.
Your save game stays untouched
Open Road MP uses your profile but never saves it, and never loads your single-player career either: every session starts with a fresh career (like a new profile), money, level and jobs on a server belong to that session only. Back in single player, everything is as before.
What to expect on a server
- When you join, the server sets your bank balance and cancels any active job.
- If you have no vehicle, clicking Drive gives you the server's fallback truck.
- The server sets the game rules: police, traffic, fatigue, fuel consumption and more. The server list shows them before you connect.
- A server can switch off the freight market, the cargo market or quick jobs - they are then missing from the Jobs menu and locked in the job screens. Jobs can also come from the server itself (a chat command or a window of the gamemode).
- The green holograms at companies are invisible. The spot still works: drive there (the route advisor leads you), the game shows its hint, and Enter opens the choice how to park the trailer.
- Chat: open it with the game's chat key (Y by default). Older messages scroll with the mouse wheel, arrow up/down brings back what you sent before, Esc closes it.
- Around companies there are safe zones: players drive through each other there without colliding. A small notice at the top tells you when you are in one.
