Finding a server
Server list, favourites, direct connect, mods and game versions.
Open the menu at any time with F9.
Server list
The list shows all public servers (also on the website: Servers):
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | Server name, address and message of the day. Below it: game rules as icons, gamemodes and mods. |
| Players | players online and slots |
| Ticks | position updates per second. More ticks = smoother movement of other trucks. |
| Ping | round-trip time to the server |
Click the star to save a server as a favourite. "Only with players" hides empty servers.
Click a server for its details: a panel on the right with everything about it - rules, required DLCs and mods, versions - its owner (the Open Road MP account behind the server, with a link to the profile) and the players online right now. Connect at the bottom joins it. The website's server list has the same panel.
Connect from the website
Connect on the website starts Open Road MP and joins that server - like a link to a game. If the game is already running, it picks the server up right away. It works once you have started Open Road MP at least once (that is when it registers itself for these links); your browser may ask whether to open Open Road MP. The button next to it copies the address for Direct connect.
A lock next to the name means the server has a password. A red note warns you when your game version does not fit.
Direct connect
Under Direct connect, enter the address, e.g. 1.2.3.4:42420, and a password if needed. "Save as favourite" adds it to your favourites.
Mods
Your own mods are always off on Open Road MP servers, because other players would not have them. If a server requires Steam Workshop mods, the menu lists them before you connect. Open Road MP downloads them without changing your Steam subscriptions and restarts the game once to load them. While you are connected, the menu page Current server shows the server's mods with their picture; Open on Steam opens a mod's Workshop page in Steam.
DLCs
A server can require DLCs, usually map DLCs so that everyone drives on the same map. The server list names them and marks the ones you do not own - you cannot join such a server without them.
Trucks, paint jobs or trailers of DLCs you do not own are no problem: you see other players in a similar truck instead.
Game version
A server can require a specific game version or a minimum version. If yours does not match, the server list tells you. Update ETS2 through Steam or pick another server.
Disconnecting
There is one connection per game start. After disconnecting or losing the connection, restart the game. The menu offers "Quit game" for this.
